After discussions with Mike and Tim, it was clear their long, narrow, north-facing terrace garden was defined by two contrasting microclimates. The lower, shaded area near the kitchen features lush underplanting of ferns and Soleirolia soleirolii, complemented by a Corten steel water feature and pond, enhancing its tranquil feel.

Ascending the steps, the garden transitions into a sunlit terrace with prairie-style planting—ornamental grasses, globe thistles, and sedums adding texture and color. Corten steel rills connect the sunny terrace to the shaded pond, visually linking the two zones while maximizing the garden’s natural light variations. This layered design creates a seamless flow between cool serenity and vibrant energy.
