The courtyard attracts the most foot traffic on the entire site. Enclosed by buildings on all sides, it functions as a crossroads between destinations but also serves as a gathering place and a sanctuary for contemplation.

Distinguished by its cubism inspired linear design, this area sets itself apart from the rest of the garden with a use of steps for elevation changes and the inclusion of a duel level water table linked to a trickling water feature and pond by a ground level rill.

Here the planting is secondary to the practical purpose required of the hard landscaping. However, the gentle sounds of water and the presence of aquatic and marginal planting create a soothing ambiance that resonates throughout the space tying it inextricably to the rest of the site.

Moving away from the courtyard, the farmstead's oldest cottage is situated to the right. Its historic architecture, with off-centre lines, stands out among neighbouring structures, and yet somehow sits comfortably none the less.

Introducing sharp lines and contrasting angles that may appear conflicting in places, the design challenges visitors expectations. Cubism by definition was an art movement centred around abandoning a singular perspective. Much like a person's mind can swiftly change, leading them from one thought to another, visitors may arrive with one perspective but leave with another.
